About the programme

For eligible in-service candidates, librarians, teachers managing libraries and staff working in educational resource centres. It also caters for mature career changers with relevant experience, subject to Selection Panel assessment.

Entry requirements

Minimum academic requirements:

English: IGCSE Grade C
ICT National Examination: 70%
Mathematics National Examinations: 70%

Applicant routes:

In-service candidates with A Levels or equivalent, meeting the minimum IGCSE requirements.
Librarians, teachers managing libraries or resource-centre staff with at least two years of continuous relevant experience, meeting the minimum IGCSE requirements.
Mature career changers with library, clerical, administrative or educational-support experience, subject to Selection Panel assessment.

What you will study

Organising and preserving information: Classification, cataloguing, archives and preservation.
Digital library services: Library systems, digital resources and emerging technologies, including AI.
Supporting users: Information services, reading, literacy and learning-support programmes.
Leadership and administration: Managing services, resources, staff and professional partnerships.
Inclusive professional practice: Safe, accessible services, professional ethics and research for service improvement.

Practical experience

Three stages, progressing through observation, supervised practice and independent professional practice in library and information services.

Progression opportunities

Further study in library and information science or related fields may be possible, subject to admission requirements. Confirm available routes with SITE.

Career opportunities

May lead to roles in school libraries, educational resource centres and other library and information services, including resource organisation, user support and digital services.
